It has recently been revealed that an EHS teacher has had a run in with a national phenomenon. Mr. Church of our own English department reportedly stayed the night in the infamous Key West Artist’s house, origin place of Robert the Doll.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the legend behind it, Robert was made for a young boy of the same name around the turn of the century. According to all accounts, the child was quite fond of his toy, and many described them as inseparable, however things began to take an odd turn. When the boy was about 8 years old his parents woke one night to the sound of screaming and crashing furniture. Running to their son’s room they found it locked, but after several moments of struggling, pried it open.  Inside they found the area completely trashed and their son huddled in the corner, who promptly told them the destruction was the fault of Robert. This was not initially believed of course, but when incidents of this nature grew more frequent suspicions began to grow, especially after Robert Otto (the boy in question) left home for schooling.

After receiving his education away from home Otto made his living as an artist, and married a woman named Anne, before eventually returning to the house of his childhood.  Once back to his old residence things immediately started to go badly, as upon being reunited with Robert, Otto became instantly obsessed, at times choosing its company over that of his wife and friends. Strange incidents continued to occur, eventually driving Anne to leave Otto, who became increasingly more secluded until his death in 1974.

Today, the doll resides in Fort East Martello Museum, and although it is open to the public, our sources say that Mr. Church declined to do so. In fact, according to Mr. Church himself he had no knowledge that the bed and breakfast he was staying at had any significance at all until the ghost tour he and his wife were taking stopped in front of his hotel and explained the history. The following night Mr. and Mrs. Church did not stay in their room for long at the behest of the latter, instead opting to arrive at the airport six hours early.
